Today, we learn about 3 types of rain: convectioned rain, frontal rain and relief/orographic rain.

Frontal rain:

∗ Warm air meets cold air.
Cold air meets/collides/move into warm air.
Warm air is force to rise.
∗ Adiabatic cooling
∗ Rain
∗Located at temperate regions.

Relief/ orographic rain:

∗ Moisture – laden air from the sea.
∗ Relief of the land/mountain forces air to rise.
Adiabatic cooling
∗ Water vapour condenses.
∗ Rain leeward side.
∗ Rain shadow – dry ( ↓ moisture, air sink )

Convectioned rain:
∗ Heat from sun to ground.
∗ Heat from the ground heats the air above.
∗ Evaporation from the sea.
∗ Warm air rises.
∗ Adiabatic cooling.
∗ Rain.
∗ Located at tropical region.
∗ Only occur in the afternoon and evening.

Above are the summary and diagrams of the 3 types of rain. In today lesson, Mr.Heah let us discuss first, gave us some clues, and then we had to come out with the answer based on our own knowledge. At first, everybody said they were not sure of their answers or it would probably be wrong. However, all groups got it right in the end. Mr.Heah proved his point here ☺, which is, “In fact, we know everything in geography, it is only that we haven’t organized our knowledge” ☺

I've lost count of how many comments I've made to date. I really think I've posted WAY past my quota, don't you think?

I keep thinking about this: In frontal rain, why doesn't the air simply mix and average out the temperature?

Being the LA rep, and a grammar freak, I have to admit a certain sense of irritability when I see all the bad grammar and such. I don't think it's required, but it might be good to cultivate good spelling and grammar skills, no?

I am both looking forward and NOT looking forward to doing my post. Depends on what we're doing when it's my turn.

hmm, oh ya, I didn't notice the fact that the temperature of airs should reach equilibrium, right?? haha, so when that question of Calvin's is answered, everyone shall benefit, yayy(:
actually, perhaps the mistakes were little errors which were overlooked, so let's not stress Vi out too much(: after all, I thought her diagrams were organized and easy to understand, and her points were short and sweet, to the point(: thanks Vi for making revision simpler for us(: and there's the point when Mr Heah said we have to organise our points!I never realised the importance of organisation till I did the two geography essays! Even urban development requires planning and organisation to allow a city to be successful(: I used to just keep researching for more and more information with no idea on how I will organise my essay, but this time I decided to try planning my points out before searching so that I can save time! So now, before we do anything, organisation first, so that what you research on will not go wasted when you realise it's unnecessary, yayy(:

Ouch, my eyes! All the smileys!

I just wanted to share another link:

It's quite alarming, I must say.

Also, congrats to ALMOST everyone for completing their geog. essay!

Thank you Vi for the nice diagrams! anyway calvin, I don't think the small grammar mistakes really matter. What matters is that you understand it. Don't stress vi too much, she did quite a good job with her post.

Nice diagrams from Vi! Do ensure you guys swap the leeward and windward side error.

As for Calvin's question about air mixing, it's a new question for me as well. I'd probably want to ask the Physics teachers about that as it'll probably involve things like fluid dynamics.
